Francesca Ferretti, University of Pisa

Journalist and communication officer at the University of Pisa, I write on a daily basis about all kind of things: science, literature, chemistry, robotics, archaeology… hoping one day to find the inspiration to write my own novel.

What is your role in your university?

I’ve been working at the University of Pisa for many years. I started as editor at the University Publishing House, then moved to the Press and Communication Office, due to the experience and collaboration I gained as reporter in a local newspaper. That allowed me to achieve my Press Card. I actually work as a Press Officer, I write press releases and edit news for the official website, supporting the organization of University’s main events.

What is your role in the Circle U. Alliance?

I’m a member of the Comm Group, one of the Task Force of WP7. These last months I have been involved in the online meetings of the Group, working together with colleagues from the other Circle U. universities. My job is also spreading information about Circle U. initiatives among professors, researchers and students at my university, using website, social network and internal communication channels.

What do you particularly like about your work at Circle U.?

Circle U. is giving me the chance to work in an international environment and letting me really understand the meaning of being a European citizen, without borders among countries and universities. It is interesting to see how the other universities work on our topics. We have the possibility to exchange opinions and experiences and build something in a common ground. I am learning a lot from the work of my colleagues, and I hope to meet them soon in person!

Have you had any experience abroad?

As "Foreign Literature and Languages" student, I have often spent time abroad. The most significant experience for me was the Erasmus Programme. I spent one year in Munich (Germany), where I attended lessons at the (LMU) University and had a part-time job in a little marketing company. I remember that year as a period full of challenges and hopes. It was the first time for me living so long so far from home, in a foreign country, in touch with people from all over Europe and beyond. That experience made me grow as a person.

If you had a sabbatical year, what would you do?

It’d like to live in a foreign country for a while, tasting the real life of that specific place. Where? In New York or in a village in Cappadocia, not yet decided.
