Circle U. making headlines on Serbian National Television
Rectors Ivanka Popovic (Belgrade) and Svein Stølen (Oslo) were interviewed last week as the Circle U. coordination group met in Belgrade, both emphasizing the importance of cooperation between universities in Europe.
Here is an English translation of the interviews.
National TV: Rector of the Oslo University has presented to the Senate members program of the European University Alliance – Circle U. Beside University of Belgrade, this alliance has six university members.
Rector Stolen: We are here to create a strong and lasting university alliance. The future of the university education in Europe is in university networking, to strengthen both European competitiveness and intercultural understanding. We need to understand each other better, our students from all over the continent needs to understand each other better, in order to create a better Europe.
Rector Popovic: We agreed to have long term cooperation. Since European Commission is offering financial support for this kind of cooperation, we are in the middle of the application process for the current call. I believe that we are on the right path in order to finish the application, which will strengthen higher education, with special focus on teaching methods, new teaching approach, teaching based on excellent research. In addition, it will increase student, teachers and nonacademic staff mobility.
National TV: University representatives have meetings every month. University of Belgrade will be the host to their European colleagues’ tomorrow.
