Bringing together various actors from doctoral schools, career centers and libraries, as well as ECR representatives, these meetings are a great opportunity to reflect on our practices and co-construct a common vision for ECR training within the alliance. The first in-person meeting took place in Paris in October 2022 and led to the implementation of four shared online courses. Since then, the course offerings has doubled. A wild range of topics, from open science to diversity, is now available to students and postdoctoral trainees. The list keeps on growing as all member universities are sharing courses.
Nurturing and Growing New Ideas
With over 50 members, the community provides invaluable opportunities for exchanging ideas and resources. It has grown to become a nurturing environment for personal and professional growth. Confronting ideas, discussing the commonalities and differences in the way we approach ECR training, the advantages as well as drawbacks of different higher education systems are extremely stimulating and enriching.
Looking through a Different Cultural Lens
By collaborating with peers from different countries and cultures, we broaden our perspectives, and develop intercultural competencies. We gain exposure to diverse approaches to problem solving, teaching and research. As a result, we are better equipped to prepare our students for careers in a globalized world, where cross-cultural communication and collaboration are becoming ever more important.
