Univerzitet u Beogradu

Founded in 1808, UB is the oldest and the largest university in Serbia and in the south-eastern European region. The University of Belgrade is also the largest university in Circle U., with almost 100.000 students and 8.500 staff members, spread over 31 faculties and 11 research institutes. The university has a long-standing tradition of academic exchange and has established extensive partnerships with numerous higher education institutions worldwide, particularly in scientific research, through various international educational and research programs.

It is located in Serbia's capital – Belgrade, an exceptionally vibrant and outspoken city, with a reputation of a regional hot-spot of culture, entertainment and nightlife, with a large expat community, ranging from students to business and industry professionals, that makes much of the city’s content inclusive for English speaking visitors.

The University of Belgrade and Circle U.

For UB, Circle U. offers a unique opportunity to learn from the best European universities and be the forerunner for the advancement not only of Serbian universities, but also of universities across the Western Balkans and south-eastern Europe, thus bringing about a larger positive impact in these regions. During the pilot phase, UB coordinated activities in the area of Student Led Sustainable Innovation, including developing and scaling up challenge-based learning activities. It is a strategic priority for the university to promote student innovation, the development of transferable and entrepreneurial skills, and sustainable education.

Under the project Circle U. 2030, UB played a crucial role in setting up the InCU.bator, based on the lessons learnt in the pilot phase. It will also reinforce its engagement in the Knowledge Hub on Climate and will support the further development of a joint programme. Along with the University of Pisa, the University of Belgrade co-directs our new Knowledge Hub on Artificial Intelligence. Last but not least, UB is responsible for the development and implementation of IT infrastructures that will make Circle U. a reality for our communities.
