Denmark has just assumed the presidency of the Council of the EU following Poland, and on 3 July, the official opening took place in the Main Hall at Aarhus University with a meeting between the College of Commissioners and the Danish government. On the same day, the university also served as the backdrop for a joint press conference held by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
This is the first time Aarhus University has hosted such a major European Union political summit.
“We think our campus is special, and it’s a pleasure to be able to share its beauty with top-level European political leaders and the public,” says Brian Bech Nielsen, rector of Aarhus University, adding that he sees the selection of the university as the venue as an important signal from the EU that science and education is a cornerstone of the European project.
After the official opening at Aarhus University and a visit to ARoS art museum, the programme concluded with an opening ceremony at Aarhus City Hall with the participation of the Danish royal couple.
AU Summer School: A warm welcome to 2,500 Danish and international students
Commissioners and ministers were not the only important guests arriving at Aarhus University in the beginning of July. The university also welcomed the first batch of international students participating in this year’s AU Summer University, which includes more than 85 courses within all academic areas – among these the Circle U. Summer School Advanced Manufacturing: Solving Real-World Industrial Challenges - Circle U.
Each year, approximately 2,500 students participate in summer university courses at Aarhus University. About two-thirds come from Aarhus University, and the rest come from universities all over the world. No less than 60 different nationalities are represented during the Summer University weeks, where participants get to enjoy courses of a high academic quality and great experiences in an exciting student city.
