Studying at the University of Oslo (UiO) is more than just getting a degree – it’s an experience. Oslo offers the best of both worlds: a vibrant city with cultural events, cozy cafés, and concerts, while also being surrounded by stunning nature. You can go from a lecture to a mountain hike in less than an hour, take a swim in the fjord after class, or even go skiing in Nordmarka in the afternoon.

Get involved!

One of the best things about UiO is the endless opportunities to get involved. There are countless student organisations and activities covering everything from debate clubs, theater, sports, climate activism, and academic challenges. There are so many events happening on campus that you can’t possibly attend them all – guest lectures, workshops, networking events, and social gatherings with students from all over the world.

Have you ever heard of a quidditch team at a university? Well, Oslo has that too. As someone who loves sports and trying new things, I’ve had such a great time exploring all these different activities. I’ve joined student teams, tried things I never thought I would, and met so many amazing people along the way. It’s one of the best ways to make friends at UiO!

Norwegians might have a reputation for being a bit more reserved than the rest of Europe, but it’s surprisingly easy to get to know people here. Everyone starting at university is open to meeting new people, and there are tons of social events organised both by study programmes and the university itself. Whether it’s through study groups, student associations, or fadder week activities, you quickly find your community.

Travelling and building networks

As a UiO student, I also had the chance to travel abroad through Circle U. This experience allowed me to meet students from all over Europe, build an amazing network, and be part of international discussions on important topics. It was fully funded by the university, making it an incredible opportunity to explore new perspectives and cultures without financial barriers. Through this trip and the connections I made, I later ended up working at Circle U. itself – something I never expected when I first started my studies!

And let’s not forget Norway itself – one of the most beautiful countries in the world! Norway is not only known for its breathtaking landscapes but also for its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Oslo is one of Europe’s greenest cities, with excellent public transport, climate-friendly policies, and a strong focus on technology and renewable energy.

If you’re looking for a university that combines academic excellence, an active student life, and a city full of opportunities, UiO is the place for you!
