Standing up for Equalities
As an alliance of nine universities, we are constantly engaging in a collective reflection about the concepts of gender equality, and diversity and inclusion (EDI) in general.
Only one week ago we gathered at Aarhus University for the Circle U. National Conference "Diversity in the Making". Together with students, staff and non-academic partners, we discussed why these concepts are important for universities and produced a set of recommendations to set in motion the changes needed to succeed in enriching the EDI agenda. The conference key insights and recommendations are available in this document (pdf).
Taking Action towards Gender Equality
What concrete steps are we taking as an alliance to meet our gender equality goals? We are implementing numerous initiatives geared towards female entrepreneurs and women in science.
One of them is to establish a student-led Female Founders’ Network, declare their goals and values in a Circle U. Female Founders Manifesto and to define the action plan for the upcoming academic years.
With this respect, the Université Paris Cité will host a two-day retreat on 21 and 22 March. This event marks the first concrete step towards involving students in female empowerment with the creation of a student-led committee – the Circle U. Female Founders’ Parliament.
During the retreat, participants will have the opportunity to listen to the testimonies of inspiring female founders, women in academia who will share the challenges they have encountered as students and young innovators as well the solutions they have found to overcome them. By the end of the retreat, participants will have created a Manifesto outlining their self-defined values and the objectives for the upcoming academic years. The manifesto strives to set in motion a network of young, empowered women ready to take up the challenges of innovation within the European space.
