In the creation of the course, I have drawn inspiration from by my programme as a Circle U. Chair, which is to explore the interface between global health, democracy, and sustainability, says Engebretsen.
The course aims to provide a platform for students from different countries and disciplines to come together and examine powerful concepts that frame public health policy, such as sustainability, well-being, equity, partnership, and empowerment.
"It will help students tease out and address the paradoxes that arise when these concepts accommodate conflicting ideological messages. We hope that this approach will trigger critical questions about powerful political buzzwords that are often taken for granted and contribute to a more precise way of using such concepts to improve health policy."
The course caters to Master of Public Health students in Oslo and MA Circle U. students from various disciplines who share an interest in the political dimensions of sustainability within public health.
"I look forward to welcoming students from our partner universities to Oslo in December," concludes professor Engebretsen.
