Political Science mostly focusses on the electoral processes of democracy and political behavior of the population. However, democracies are embedded in capitalist political economies, where quiet politics rather than the electoral arena is often calling the shots. One of the most important transformations of capitalism of recent debates has been the rise of finance, or financialization as some authors call it.
This event aims to bring together colleagues from Circle U. who work on topics related to democracy and finance, such as public supervision of banking and financial sector, control of illicit financial flows, taxation of financial transactions and assets, impact of financialization on State-Market relations, on political representation or on social and economic policies, with the aim get insights in existing research agendas and explore the potential for future collaboration.
