This webinar will begin with a warm welcome over coffee and tea, setting the tone for a morning of rich exchange and reflection. An initial introduction will frame the discussions to follow.
The first presentation, "Environmental information and decision making - from experts only to a transdisciplinary perspective", will be given by Muki Haklay (Université de Paris-Cité, UCLondon, European Citizen Science Association). It will explore how the production and use of environmental information have evolved from being expert-driven to embracing broader, more inclusive transdisciplinary approaches.
Next, Annelies Duerinckx from Scivil will offer insights in her talk titled "Valuing what citizens know: embracing diverse perspectives for climate and environmental action". Her presentation will highlight the importance of acknowledging and integrating citizen knowledge to enrich and democratize climate and environmental decision-making processes.
After a short coffee break, two concrete case studies will be presented. The first, "Lichens GO: engaging citizens in monitoring urban air quality through lichen observation", by Yannick Agnan (UCLouvain), will showcase how everyday observations can become powerful tools for environmental monitoring. This will be followed by "Tracking natural hazard disasters in non-surveyed regions: the Kivu Citizen Observer network (DR Congo)", presented by Caroline Michellier (UCLouvain, AfricaMuseum), which illustrates how citizen science can contribute to monitoring and responding to natural hazards in remote, often overlooked regions.
