Whether you are a researcher, student, activist or professional from inside or outside the alliance – contribute to the Circle U.th for Democracy 2027 event series, share your perspective on democracy and the current political events, and connect with an international group of students!

Circle U.th for Democracy is meant to connect Circle U. students to changemakers with diverse backgrounds – all around the topic of democracy and how current events are shaping our governments. The programme consists of two parts:

Online sessions

On 4 and 18 March, as well as 1 and 15 April 2027 (each from 18:20 - 20:00 CET), we welcome inputs of all formats for the digital sessions (up to 90 mins), that connect to one of the key topics listed below.

In-person week in Vienna

From 26 April through 30 April 2027, an international group of students will gather at University of Vienna. For this in-person week, we seek contributions such as talks, workshops, case studies or other interactive formats related to sustainability in practice.

We especially welcome formats that create dialogue and discussion. Topics we wish to discuss are in the list of key topics below.

Key topics:

During the Circle U.th for Democracy program, we wish to address the following subjects:

  • Politics in the media: communication, social media, AI, propaganda, elections manipulation, misinformation, polarisation.
  • Explore political currents, including types of democracies, where are the levers of action, historic and current turnovers (e.g., Serbia’s student list).
  • Current uprising events all around Europe and the world (e.g., Serbia): What is at stake, rise in populism, analyse protests and claims.
  • The science behind political behaviour : Cognitive biases, emotions, identity, and group belonging, resistance to contradictory evidence, conditions for changing opinions.
  • Democracy, inequality & social class: How class, education, gender, and insecurity shape political voice? Disconnection between institutions and underrepresented communities.
