A key centre piece of our organization is the physical seminars, and from October 25th to 27th, we held our latest physical seminar on the King’s College campus in London. The seminar was coordinated with the upcoming Management Board Workshop and General Assembly of Circle U. Following our commitment to producing position papers that reflect student perspectives, we developed and approved two new documents during this seminar. Throughout this event, we focused on several significant initiatives.
New paper on ED&I
During the physical seminar we finalized our paper about equality, diversity and inclusion. As we know, our universities have several bodies and committees dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, with active student participation to address community needs. These are important and could be a great asset to Circle U. and a potential centralized task force.
CUSU calls for:
- A safe and respectful environment where everyone feels welcomed & is able to learn.
- An alliance that recognizes both visible and invisible disabilities.
- Listening to underrepresented student groups.
To include is not about telling but of understanding!
Internal structuring
We were thrilled to welcome the newest student representative from King’s College to the CUSU team. This addition strengthens our connection with the London campus and further diversifies the perspectives within our group.
As we continue to welcome new representatives and say farewell to others, refining our internal structure remains a priority. During this seminar, we reviewed and enhanced our internal protocols to ensure a safer, more efficient operation, allowing CUSU to be better. In addition to this we started the process of developing our own code of conduct, as well as looking into the possibility of having a trust person in CUSU.
New paper on AI
Following the decision from the Brussels GA in May we have been working on the student perspective on the new AI Knowledge Hub. This paper outlines our recommendations for the Knowledge Hub AI initiative within Circle U.
The main points are:
- Circle U. universities should ensure that AI is implemented in ways that support academic integrity, equity, inclusivity and multilingualism.
- The importance of enhancing learning and streamline administrative processes while maintaining high ethical standards.
- We emphasize the development of an alliance-wide guideline for the usage of artificial intelligence in education. The guideline should focus on giving students security on where and how AI is allowed, especially in graded tasks such as exams and papers.
