Key takeaways from our seminar in Paris

Our latest seminar, held from March 7th to 9th at Université Paris Cité, was a valuable opportunity for collaboration among CUSU members. The focus was on improving our internal organisation and updating key position papers.

Why we updated our paper on mobility

With sustainability at the core of Circle U.'s mission, updating our existing position paper on mobility felt essential. This revision emphasises a more sustainable approach to student mobility, aligning with our Knowledge Hub on Climate. Key updates include:

  • Green mobility: Encouraging the use of trains and buses instead of flights, with incentives for sustainable travel.
  • Inclusivity: Ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities and from disadvantaged backgrounds, have access to mobility opportunities.
  • Balancing physical and online mobility: Keeping in-person exchanges at the heart of mobility while using online tools as a supplement, not a replacement.
  • Enhancing blended intensive programmes (BIPs): Increasing in-person engagement within these programs to maximise their impact.

All of our position papers, including this updated one, are now available via our Instagram linktree and can also be read here.

Strengthening our internal structure

Building on previous discussions, we refined our internal organisation to make our work more efficient and structured. This includes furthering efforts initiated in London, such as drafting a Code of Conduct and exploring the role of a trust person within CUSU. While these developments are progressing, we recognise the importance of a thoughtful and deliberate approach rather than rushing the process.

Upcoming paper on political extremism

Another important outcome of our Paris seminar was the decision to develop a position paper on political extremism and its impact on higher education. This work is underway, and we plan to publish the paper in April.

Collaborating with Circle U.

During the seminar, we also met with Circle U. communication representatives to discuss ways to strengthen our collaboration. One key initiative is a joint monthly Instagram post, aimed at increasing our collective reach and engagement.

Preparing for Pisa

Looking ahead, we are gearing up for our next seminar in May, just before the General Assembly in Pisa. Our main focus will be onboarding new members and refining our position papers. We will also be creating content for CUSU’s Instagram to keep our community informed and engaged.

Stay tuned for more updates!
