We warmly invite you to celebrate the publication of Beyond the Bedside: A Narrative Model of Knowledge Translation in Reproductive Health by Eivind Engebretsen and Mona Baker, published by Cambridge University Press (2026).

The book challenges the assumption that medical evidence speaks for itself. Drawing on contested issues in reproductive healthcare, including IVF, puberty blockers and abortion care, it explores how evidence is shaped by competing narratives as it travels between research, clinical practice, policy and public debate. The authors propose a new narrative model of knowledge translation that places interpretation, values and power at the centre of how medical knowledge is produced and used.

The launch will take the form of a roundtable discussion, featuring an interview with the authors, invited commentaries and an open conversation with the audience.

The discussion will be chaired by Professor Angela Woods, Durham University, with invited commentaries from:

  • Professor Monika Pietrzak-Franger, University of Vienna.
  • Professor Piotr Blumczynski, Queens University Belfast.

The roundtable will be followed by an informal reception, offering an opportunity to continue the conversation.

All are welcome!

The book is available Open Access from Cambridge University Press.
