The discussion will connect academic perspectives with experiences from schools and civil society, looking at how education can equip students and citizens to understand, engage with and contribute to democratic life. What role can universities play in this process? How can education foster active citizenship and make European values meaningful in people's everyday lives? And how can universities, schools and civil society work together to strengthen democratic culture?

The event is organised within the Jean Monnet Module “Promoting and Strengthening EU Values” (ProStEUVa) and is the first part of a two-day programme dedicated to education on EU values. Developed as a Circle U. Open Conversation, it brings together the University of Pisa and the University of Oslo within the framework of the Circle U. Democracy Hub, reflecting a shared commitment to connecting education, research and public engagement and to strengthening cooperation across the Alliance.

Held in English and open to the academic community, schools, civil society and the wider public, the Open Conversation is designed as a space for exchange and dialogue across different educational and social contexts.

In Pisa, the event will take place in the Aula Magna Storica of the Palazzo della Sapienza.
