On 10 June, Humboldt-Universität celebrated 5 years of Circle U. by opening the anniversary poster exhibition that was designed for and previously shown at the five-year celebration at the University of Vienna – bringing it to a whole new audience in Berlin. The event joined students, professors and friends of Circle U., including former colleagues and members of other European university alliances present in Berlin.
Half a decade into the process of building the alliance, the posters created by students, academics and staff of the nine partner universities are both: a glimpse into what has been achieved as well as inspiration for future endeavours. As Alliance Manager Dr Fritzi-Marie Titzmann put it in her opening remarks: “This exhibition is not only for viewing, but also for exchange. You may discover new points of connection, new partners, or new ideas for joint activities.”
Five years of Circle U.: Achievements from a Berlin Perspective
The team at Humboldt also took advantage of the moment to take stock of the substantial achievements of the first five years of the alliance – from a Berlin perspective:
- the coordination of the Knowledge Hub on Climate with a whole host of activities including five summer schools
- the appointment of nine Academic Chairs and one Academic Director
- 42 Open Campus offers involving academics from Humboldt
- 16 courses funded through the Collaborative Online International Learning scheme
- the joint Master’s in European Public Governance in collaboration with UCLouvain and the Università di Pisa
- and the establishment of a dedicated Circle U. staff unit within the university’s International Department.
The afternoon concluded with conversations over Circle U. birthday cake and surrounded by the posters reminding everyone of just how much is possible when nine European universities join forces.
The 5-year anniversary exhibition will be shown at Humboldt-Universität until 10 July.
