Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has a new president: Julia von Blumenthal, a professor of political science with many years of experience in university and science management, took office on October 1st. Circle U. is high up on her agenda:
Next month, on 28 and 29 November, she will open Circle U.'s second National Conference, hosted by Humboldt. "It is a great privilege to be welcoming you, our alliance partners, for the Circle U. National Conference in Berlin," von Blumenthal says in the direction of the wider Circle U. community.
Conference highlights Humboldt's climate expertise
The title of the conference "Europe and the Green Deal in Higher Education" reflects Humboldt's commitment to themes surrounding climate change.
As von Blumenthal notes: "Not only are we hosting Circle U.'s Knowledge Hub on Climate, but we also have a dedicated internal Climate Protection Office and a very active student-led Sustainability Office, as well as an abundance of research dedicated to environmental questions, for example in the Integrative Research Institute on Transformations of Human-Environment Systems (IRI THESys). It is also important for us to facilitate dialogue and exchange between science and society at large, which is what our Open Humboldt platform was designed for."
All these initiatives and spaces will be presented at the conference \u2013 alongside a varied programme of keynotes, panel discussions and interactive formats addressing local, European and global perspectives on sustainability in the realm of higher education.
