With a strong focus on the Humanities, it mainly addressed the entanglements of politics, social hierarchies and culture. Organized by Eveline Kilian (Circle U. Academic Chair for Democracy at HU) and her team, the school brought together around 50 participants from six Circle U. universities and all levels of academic engagement - from students to early career researchers to senior members of staff. In a number of networking hubs on different thematic issues, participants presented and discussed their research projects with a view to facilitate further collaborations across disciplinary and national borders.

The different Networking Hubs included:

  • Intersectional Perspectives on Democracy
  • Cultural Practices and Political Participation (Cultural Activism and the relationship between Aesthetics and Politics)
  • Cultural Politics and Cultural Practices and how they relate to Social Stability and Social Hierarchies
  • Democracy and the Political Spectrum
  • Political Institutions, Democracy and Citizenship
  • Education and Democracy
