When I first moved to Berlin, I wasn’t just searching for a place to study, I was looking for an experience. I wanted something that would open new windows in my life and help me grow personally and academically. I came to Berlin to pursue a Master’s in Philosophy at Humboldt-Universität, and I can honestly say that this city and this university have given me more than I ever could have imagined.

Diversity at every turn

Berlin is alive in a way I had never experienced before. It’s not just steeped in history (though there’s plenty of that, too); it’s a city in constant motion, always growing. Every neighborhood has its own vibe, and there’s always something new to explore. The best part? Berlin is exceptionally welcoming and diverse. As an international student, that made all the difference to me, because it felt like I could find my place here from the very beginning.

What truly sets Berlin apart is that You’ll. Never. Get. Bored. Ever. Craving amazing food? Head to Kreuzberg and try some Vietnamese curry. Curious about history? Get lost in the museums on Museum Island. Need a break from the busy city? You’ll be surprised by how much nature Berlin has to offer – from the quiet lakes of Grünau and Müggelsee to the peaceful paths in Tegel Forest and the Japanese gardens at Gärten der Welt.

Humboldt equals discovery

And Humboldt? It’s the perfect match for Berlin’s vibe. Studying at HU isn’t just about lectures and libraries – it’s about hands-on experiences, international opportunities, and discovering new ways of thinking. Through Circle U., for example I got to go abroad for different projects and summer schools, collaborate with students from different countries and, not to forget, I enjoyed Belgian waffles and Parisian croissants while gaining new perspectives on my field. HU gives you wings – inspiring interdisciplinary exploration and supporting collaboration beyond the classroom.

In fact, this vibrant academic life at HU inspired me so much that I didn’t want to stop. After finishing my first Master’s, I started a second one in Mind and Brain, an interdisciplinary programme that reflects everything I love about this university – you’re not limited by traditional borders. Here, you’re encouraged to dive into new areas and invited to think outside the box.

All things considered, choosing to study in Berlin at Humboldt-Universität was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This place challenges you, inspires you, and pushes you to grow and come out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s the dynamic academic environment, the vibrant city life, or the people you meet along the way – studying here is an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. it felt like I could find my place here from the very beginning.
