Strengthening research support across the alliance

Welcome to the Circle U. Community of Practice (COP) for administrative staff focusing on Research Support.

Research support takes many forms and is needed at every step of the life-cycle of a research project, from the drafting of a proposal to the management of the funding. In line with the ambitions of Circle U. and our universities, we, research managers and administrators propose to set up a Community of Practice to tackle as broadly as possible the issue of research support. We ambition to tighten the Circle U. research cooperation and to foster excellence in our research.

We aim at sharing best practice, experimenting innovative solutions and provide resources to all research managers and administrators across all disciplines and across all Circle U. members. To that end, we will divide into two working groups focusing each on pre- and post-award research support.

How the Community is organised

To that end, we will divide into two working groups focusing each on pre- and post-award research support.

Working Group 1: pre-award research support

This first group will tackle everything related to research support from the communication of research funding opportunities to the notification of result through the help in the proposal-writing, the building of international consortia etc. We could focus on European funded projects especially under Horizon Europe in order to ensure an equal base of comprehension and a common language among all participants of this Working Group.

The following topics may be considered for the work of this first group:

  • Communication of funding opportunities
  • Consortium building
  • AI in research administration
  • Early-career researchers’ development
  • Teaching oriented research
  • Support to professional research networks

Working Group 2: post-award research support

The second group will focus on post-award research support, in particular the management of scientific projects, regardless of whether they are nationally or internationally funded. We aim at discussing the best practices regarding collaboration with the project partners and the coordination of the project in all its aspects, such as organisation, administration, finance, communication, partnerships, and project monitoring.

By sharing successful and failed experiences, we hope to learn from each other and disseminate good practices in scientific project management.

Here are the suggested topics to discuss, which can be adapted according to the needs of the community:

  • Governance & Structure
  • Project Planning & Execution
  • Communication & Collaboration
  • Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Data Management & Open Science
  • Funding & Budget Management
  • Capacity Building & Training
