Congratulations to Professor Robert Arlinghaus (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Dr. Manon Bajard (University of Oslo) and Dr. Barbara McGillivray (King’s College London), for their innovative and novel approaches to inter- and trans-disciplinary research.
We are now halfway into the three-year Erasmus+ project period and recently we submitted the midterm report to the EU Commission, where we describe the status so far, the implementation of activities, and to what extent we meet our main objectives.
Five projects have been selected by the Université Paris Cité Jury, which praised the quality of the proposals received. These projects involve eight of the alliance's universities, and for several of them, associated partners and students within the project team.

Language barriers are among the main obstacles in integrating international students into our universities. The arrival of Ukrainian students in our universities in times of crisis has brought new challenges that the Circle U. French Hub has chosen to meet by offering in record time French courses to beginners.
There were a totalt of 818 applications for Circle U.’s five summer schools. – This is an impressive number, and shows that there is a huge interest in collaboration across borders, languages and cultures – which is what Circle U. is all about, says Secretary General Kevin Guillaume.

On 30 April 2022, the University Board of the University of Vienna unanimously elected Sebastian Schütze as the university’s new Rector. Prof. Dr Schütze, who is currently the Dean of the Faculty of History and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna, will take office on 1 October 2022 for a four-year term.
As it is the case with many higher education institutions in the world, Circle U. universities have responded to the humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine by putting in place support measures for students, staff and institutions affected by the conflict.
All nine Circle U. partners have signed the multilateral Erasmus+ agreement guaranteeing places for students and staff who are planning a stay abroad.
During the Louvain Learning Days in May, the Louvain Learning Lab of the Université Catholique de Louvain offers three free online training modules for professors and Circle U. members (two in French and one in English). The modules focus on feedback from students, problem-based learning and transferable skills.

Following the decision of its Management Board, Circle U. responded to the European Commission’s call of January 2022 for organisations to express their interest in being part of a coalition on reforming research assessment.
